Wangji is about to suggest that Wei Ying take the bed more often, particularly as he nurses these injuries back to health, but in typical Wei Ying fashion, he's already moved on.
"In a small room with no doors, alone."
He sits up then, to carry on this conversation. He wasn't sure, at first, how long they were going to keep him. Or what they were doing to Wei Ying. When no one came to further interrogate him, he'd hoped it was the same. And when they'd just left him to rot - he wondered, would they leave him here to die? Was this going to be a coffin?
He looks down at Wei Ying with sad eyes, as he ponders his own mortality. He had always assumed that if he did not ascend to nirvana, that he would die in battle, or be deemed unworthy and die of old age. He did not want to be starved and die alone in a dark cage, but that paled in comparison to his thoughts over Wei Ying who had only been alive for a few scant weeks. They had both been given a second chance, but Lan Wangji has been able to live theirs for months.

"We cannot let that happen again," he resolves.
