"If you prefer to do things alone, I won't stop you," he shrugs. He hadn't been looking for compliments or praise, just a way to help pass the time. It was easy to fall into lethargy here, especially with this sudden heat wave. Most of his days were spent idling in the pool, and he couldn't say he was terribly bothered by it. He felt... pretty calm actually.

"I just thought you might like some company. It doesn't have to be sparring. Whatever you want, you know?" he smiles a little easier.

To hear that there's no solution probably should have frustrated him, or at least sparked in him a contrary argument, but... maybe if Lan Zhan thought so, that's just how it was?
