to lose all my senses —

THAT IS JUST SO TYPICALLY ME

It's not clear how many days it's been since you arrived in Wonderland. With it stuck in perpetual twilight, it could have been days, perhaps longer — everything starts to blur together, in this artificially joyful place. Maybe you've started to feel like you you're getting used to it, maybe not...

But eventually, something happens to break the monotony. Your ears begin to ring, and ring, and ring and then — stop. The lights become blinding, forcing you to squeeze your eyes shut and try to rub the afterimage of all that light from them — but when you open your eyes, you still can't see.

The staff don't understand when you ask them what's happened to you. "You've always been like this", they insist. They sign at you, or try to hand you papers written in braille — if you insist you've never signed in your life, or that you can't read braille, they laugh at your funny joke. You begin to wonder — have you always been this way? You were so sure... But everyone around you is equally sure of their truth, and their voices are so much louder.

As if that weren't enough, nothing in the hotel can be found in the same place twice. All the shops keep switching places, once you enter one area it's as though everything shifts in the minutes before you leave again. Getting back to your room is a struggle — where are the elevators? Finding food is nearly impossible — the Pig & Pepper was there, but now it's not. The staff are equally useless here — they have no idea what you mean about moving shops. Where would you want to move to when all your needs are accounted for right here?

What is going on?

SEE NO EVIL, HEAR NO EVIL — 5/11

The day starts like any other has in the Hotel — unsure if a new day has started at all. Perpetual twilight and lack of clocks makes it difficult to tell time here in the Hotel, but on this particular day, something breaks up the monotony. It begins slowly — or else it happens all at once. Over the course of the day, all Oysters find themselves losing a sense. Staff don't understand their complaints — you've always been like this, they say, gentle, as though to a person in the middle of a break with reality.

Losing your temper won't help, either. Oysters who shout and yell will find staff remaining frustrating calm and compassionate, insisting that they cannot fix what has always been and murmuring about Mad March before taking their leave. Physical aggression may result in a spike of fear, but staff will quickly make their exit and may avoid that Oyster for a while.

If that wasn't enough, nothing in the Hotel is staying put.

IT'S LIKE A MAZE IN HERE — 5/11

The interior of the Hotel has ceased to remain stationary. Beginning at the same time as the loss of senses, the establishments of the Hotel begin to jump around, never staying in the same place twice. An Oyster may have entered the Pool of Tears from the lobby, but exit it into the middle of the casino. The Pig & Pepper Buffet is never in the same place twice, and always seems to move right when Oysters desperately need a meal.

Even as the old shops move, new establishments seem to be being added, but they aren't easy to find — Oysters will see a new sign across the building from where they are, only to see it's moved again by the time they get there. If you take your eyes off an establishment as you head toward it, it disappears and reappears elsewhere. Making it to the new establishments will take some time and dedication (or perhaps plain stubbornness), but there are rewards in it for any Oyster that can manage the feat!

Back To Rights — 5/15

A few days after the effects of the event begin, they just as suddenly end. Sight, hearing, speech — they all return in a rush, possibly overwhelmingly so, and when one tries to make their way to a shop, it stays exactly where it was when they first saw it, and they exit the exact same place they entered. Staff will react much the same way as they did when they were questioned after the loss of senses — you've always been like this.

You made it through, Oysters. You've completed your first event in the Hotel.

We hope you enjoy this first event, Oysters! If you have any questions, please leave them on the first comment to this page. Happy playing!

"The question is how long it's going to take to be over," Mikumo remarks, tone rather sober, but at least making the attempt to keep some food aside should be worthwhile. She doesn't want to make waves before knowing the consequences, but this feels like quite a minor thing to attempt.

"For now, I suppose we can think about it over food."

He is going to be at her mercy for whatever food she decides to pick for the both of them.

"Let's eat! I don't know what there is..but do you see anything spicy?" He loves spicy foods.

Mikumo pauses for a moment at that question, though Wuxian won't be able to see the strange look that crosses her face as she decides how to phrase the problem here.

"I'm not sure how to identify spicy foods other than by taste. I've never eaten any before," she says, tone almost cautious like she expects a strange reaction to the fact.

"Ah..well..usually something that is really red in color or has a lot of red looking spices on top of them." It's a little hard to explain but that is about the best he can come up with.

"It's okay if you don't see anything like that! Sometimes the staff is willing to give us stuff to put on it in order to make it spicier."

"Hmm. I'll see what I can find, but I'm sure I've eaten red foods that weren't spicy," she says mildly, looking over the offerings. There's some berry pastries that she assumes aren't the kind of red he's looking for, but in the midst of the hot foods, there seems to be some sort of meat and vegetable dish that smells rather strong, so she starts to direct him over there.

"Does that smell like what you're looking for?" Once they get close enough, the scent of peppers of some sort will be very obvious - it's a pot of chili.

He leans closer to smell and it's unlike anything he has ever had before but it definitely smells spicier then most things available.

"That!I'll try that!" He likes trying new things and this world has a plethora of that. He lets go of her arm so that it makes it easier for her to get the food.

"Alright, alright," Mikumo says, her tone faintly amused in something of a wry way. It feels like hanging around with some of the younger Walkure members and their food obsessions, but at least she's not being forced to eat jellyfish this time. So she'll spoon some of the chili into a bowl and then bring one of his hands up to support the bowl, not taking her hands off it until he has a good hold on it.

"I'll find you somewhere to sit and then see how much I can find that'd be easy to keep in our rooms." Picking up a spoon on the way so he actually has something to eat with, Mikumo starts to lead him over to one of the tables closest to the buffet.

He takes a hold of the bowl as she hands it to him. Being careful to keep it upright. He can feel the warmth of the food inside through the bowl. He is once again grateful to have found someone so willing to go to so much trouble.

As he feels the table hit the top of his legs, he sets the bowl down on top of it. "Thanks! Hopefully you can find lots of tasty things."

Mikumo draws the chair so he can hear where it is, but figures it might be a bit overbearing to help him into the seat. She's the kind of person who doesn't feel there's much point in antagonising anyone here when she doesn't need to motivate them or anything like that, so with that set aside, the fact that she was ultimately created to help people is playing more into things.

"I'll see. It doesn't make much difference to me in the end, but I imagine it will to you if you want to take some as well," she says, amusement playing around her voice again before she goes to head back to the buffet.

He settles into the chair, figuring it would be easier just to start then to wait for her to come back. The chili is hot so he blows on the bowl to try and get it to cool down some before he takes a bite.

It is definitely spicy but not overly so. It's just a nice blend of them. He will remember this food for later.

Mikumo takes a few minutes, going over what's available and determining what seems closest to things they'd use as preserved field rations back home. Anything that needs to be at a particular temperature goes quickly, but there are some fruits and baked items which will at least last a few days. She'd prefer things that would keep for longer, but those options are more limited - cereals, potentially, if they can get the right kind of container, or dried fruits.

She encounters another problem when discussing with the staff, though, which is that they don't have anything for carrying the food besides plates. Because, of course, they can't understand why anyone would want to eat anywhere but here. Mikumo circles back around to the table sounding a bit dry.

"Well, I hope you can still balance a plate, because apparently that's all we'll have to take anything back to our rooms with."

"I'm sure I can manage. As long as the room doesn't move while we are in it." He has pretty good balance if he has to carry it with one hand and guide himself along by the other.

"Did they at least have foods that would keep okay?"
