to lose all my senses —

THAT IS JUST SO TYPICALLY ME

It's not clear how many days it's been since you arrived in Wonderland. With it stuck in perpetual twilight, it could have been days, perhaps longer — everything starts to blur together, in this artificially joyful place. Maybe you've started to feel like you you're getting used to it, maybe not...

But eventually, something happens to break the monotony. Your ears begin to ring, and ring, and ring and then — stop. The lights become blinding, forcing you to squeeze your eyes shut and try to rub the afterimage of all that light from them — but when you open your eyes, you still can't see.

The staff don't understand when you ask them what's happened to you. "You've always been like this", they insist. They sign at you, or try to hand you papers written in braille — if you insist you've never signed in your life, or that you can't read braille, they laugh at your funny joke. You begin to wonder — have you always been this way? You were so sure... But everyone around you is equally sure of their truth, and their voices are so much louder.

As if that weren't enough, nothing in the hotel can be found in the same place twice. All the shops keep switching places, once you enter one area it's as though everything shifts in the minutes before you leave again. Getting back to your room is a struggle — where are the elevators? Finding food is nearly impossible — the Pig & Pepper was there, but now it's not. The staff are equally useless here — they have no idea what you mean about moving shops. Where would you want to move to when all your needs are accounted for right here?

What is going on?

SEE NO EVIL, HEAR NO EVIL — 5/11

The day starts like any other has in the Hotel — unsure if a new day has started at all. Perpetual twilight and lack of clocks makes it difficult to tell time here in the Hotel, but on this particular day, something breaks up the monotony. It begins slowly — or else it happens all at once. Over the course of the day, all Oysters find themselves losing a sense. Staff don't understand their complaints — you've always been like this, they say, gentle, as though to a person in the middle of a break with reality.

Losing your temper won't help, either. Oysters who shout and yell will find staff remaining frustrating calm and compassionate, insisting that they cannot fix what has always been and murmuring about Mad March before taking their leave. Physical aggression may result in a spike of fear, but staff will quickly make their exit and may avoid that Oyster for a while.

If that wasn't enough, nothing in the Hotel is staying put.

IT'S LIKE A MAZE IN HERE — 5/11

The interior of the Hotel has ceased to remain stationary. Beginning at the same time as the loss of senses, the establishments of the Hotel begin to jump around, never staying in the same place twice. An Oyster may have entered the Pool of Tears from the lobby, but exit it into the middle of the casino. The Pig & Pepper Buffet is never in the same place twice, and always seems to move right when Oysters desperately need a meal.

Even as the old shops move, new establishments seem to be being added, but they aren't easy to find — Oysters will see a new sign across the building from where they are, only to see it's moved again by the time they get there. If you take your eyes off an establishment as you head toward it, it disappears and reappears elsewhere. Making it to the new establishments will take some time and dedication (or perhaps plain stubbornness), but there are rewards in it for any Oyster that can manage the feat!

Back To Rights — 5/15

A few days after the effects of the event begin, they just as suddenly end. Sight, hearing, speech — they all return in a rush, possibly overwhelmingly so, and when one tries to make their way to a shop, it stays exactly where it was when they first saw it, and they exit the exact same place they entered. Staff will react much the same way as they did when they were questioned after the loss of senses — you've always been like this.

You made it through, Oysters. You've completed your first event in the Hotel.

We hope you enjoy this first event, Oysters! If you have any questions, please leave them on the first comment to this page. Happy playing!

Wei Wuxian sits down, feeling his hand along the chair and the table. He's grateful for the other man's help as he settles. "It's strange magic that is for sure...I've only ever seen poisons and things that can make you sick. I don't know anything about stuff that actually can change your body or your feelings."

"Mind and mood altering drugs aren't that much of a stretch. The fact that we're in some way providing them though... that's weird," says Crowley, perusing the wine selection. He'd never been much for anything that wasn't alcohol, but the demon would try anything once, and he'd enjoyed magic mushrooms back in the 60s. None of this seemed like magic mushrooms.

"What kind of drinks do you like? Beer? Wine? Cocktails?"

"Wine is my go-to. But I'll drink anything." He has tried a few things from this world and has yet to find an alcoholic drink he doesn't like.

He obviously can't see the menu so he will trust the other man with whatever he selects.

Crowley flips over the alcohol selection. It really is quite a list. He's almost, grudgingly, impressed.

"Any particular kind? They probably have it."

Crowley was thinking of a good port or marsala. He needed to be drunk to cope with the week he was having.

"Mm..anything. I will trust whatever you pick. I'm sure it will be new to me since there was only a small selection back home so I'm looking forward to it."

Wei Wuxian relaxes in his chair, looking around the room..which is more out of habit since ha can't actually see anything.

"Right. Two marsalas it is then."

Crowley flags the bartender, orders, and returns his attention to the human.

"So how exactly does one go about becoming a cultivator? Doesn't seem like the sort of thing you just stumble upon at random. Oh mum, I was just out in the garden picking flowers and I accidentally raised Mittens. ...Though I suppose stranger things have happened."

"Ah well..cultivators are generally born with a golden core that harnesses their spiritual energy. So you basically have to train really hard so you can access it to it's full potential."

And then there is him...

"And..in my case I chose to harness the spiritual and resentful energy that is around us and kind of recycle it to do what normal cultivators would do."

And it's considered very taboo and people hate him for it but he gave away his golden core and doesn't really have a choice.

Crowley nods along. For an occult being, Crowley isn't too steeped in magic. Oh, he'd happily warp his localized reality to suit his whims and convenience, but the nuts and bolts of it tended to elude him. He'd been summoned by the occasional sorcerer as well, always easy jobs, but he'd still had himself taken off the roster after the fifteenth consecutive time they'd gotten him while in the bath. A demon can't even take a four-month soak without being yanked through time and space into some weirdo's cellar.

"So if I'm following right - and correct me if I'm wrong - you basically harness the output of what I suppose is the normal cultivation process?"

[personal profile] scaredofdogs 2020-05-28 02:26 am (UTC)(link)
"In some ways I guess I do. Usually spirits are everywhere whether you can see them or not. Cultivators generally want to get those spirits and dead to rest and move on. But because I'm using them instead of letting them move on..cultivators have basically decided that what I do is considered evil."

Not that Wei Wuxian is evil in any way..but people have branded him that way. He's merely trying to fight evil with evil.

"Eh, I can think of worse uses for human souls," says the demon Crowley who has seen them put to some pretty gruesome things.

"Doesn't really sound terribly evil to me. But then, maybe not the best judge of these things."

Two glasses of wine are set down in front of them, and Crowley gives his a sniff, and then a quick taste. No actual sign of poison, but that doesn't mean anything. He decides to watch what may or may not happen to the human before actually drinking.

Wei Wuxian hears the glass get set down and reaches out timidly, not wanting to accidentally knock it over. His fingers find it and wrap around the stem so that he can pick it up and guide it to his mouth. It's a very cautious process as he works out how to do this without eyes for the first time.

"People don't like what goes against the way they've always thought. In our world people see things as black and white with no room for argument."

It's a bigger cup then he is used to but he is assuming it also isn't filled all the way to the top. He puts the glass to his lips and takes a small sip as a test then humming his approval as he takes another one.

"It's good!"

[personal profile] inlovewithmycar 2020-05-29 05:25 am (UTC)(link)
Crowley stifles a chuckle with a sip of wine. Boy, did he know what that's like.

"Things are never as clear-cut as people like to think. But I suppose having those lines drawn in the sand makes things easier in a way. This is Good, and this is Bad, and never the twain shall meet, so-on-and-so-forth."

He shrugs idly.

"Some people grow out of it, others don't."

"Based on my experience..more often then not, they don't." He has been hated and seen as evil for years, even after his body was dead and gone. There are a few exceptions to the rule luckily. It seems Lan Wangji is trending more to the gray now which is a relief for him.

"It's okay though. I don't mind being everyone's favorite bad guy."
inlovewithmycar: (verbal keysmash)

[personal profile] inlovewithmycar 2020-05-31 01:04 am (UTC)(link)
Crowley, the Serpent of Eden, humanity's first teacher (albeit unintentionally), feels an immediate sense of solidarity with this human.

"I suppose that depends on where you are," Crowley says. There had been places where a talking snake demon had been the epitome of evil. There had been other places where things had been quite the opposite.

"Are there any terrible side effects to what you're doing? Or is it just kind of like being a coroner where it's kind of weird and spooky but not by any stretch actually bad?"
scaredofdogs: (sad contemplative)

[personal profile] scaredofdogs 2020-05-31 01:13 am (UTC)(link)
"It's taboo. Cultivators want to put the souls to rest and by using them, then I'm breaking rules and not allowing them to be released. It's a little hard on my body..especially this one since it's weaker then the one I used to have. Resentful energy generally wants to corrupt your mind and your heart so it can be hard to handle."

Mostly he doesn't think the same way as others do and that scares people. But apparently he gained followers while he was dead who like to profit off his ideas. That part is kind of amusing to him.
inlovewithmycar: (verbal keysmash)

[personal profile] inlovewithmycar 2020-05-31 10:53 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh, taboo."

Crowley says it with the same inflection one might have for anything particularly absurd. He's already about three quarters of the way through his wine.

"Nothing wrong with being a bit taboo. S'how you figure out if the social wotsits are worth keeping around or if they're -"

He gestures vaguely. "-Just there so the top brass can stay the top brass. Y'know?"
scaredofdogs: (sad contemplative)

[personal profile] scaredofdogs 2020-05-31 11:06 pm (UTC)(link)
"Mm..Kind of. The top brass definitely don't like me." All the sect leaders want him dead again. And to stay buried this time.

"Apparently I gained followers after I died though so apparently there is a little bit more gray area in my world then when I left it." But he thinks most of those followers are just in it for the money. Nothing wrong with making a dollar so he can't really fault them. He just wishes they stopped making him look like a monster.
inlovewithmycar: (Drama queen)

[personal profile] inlovewithmycar 2020-06-01 04:37 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh, followers are weird," Crowley (who has on several occasions been mistaken for, or simply conflated with his former lord and master, and had to play along for the sake of good PR) agrees wholeheartedly.

"They're always bringing you weird gifts, or chanting who-knows-what, and they want to know you're opinion on everything because they can't be arsed to think for themselves. And don't even get me started with the bloody virgins. Always got them tied to a pole or an alter, like what am I supposed to do with this?! It's stereotyping all over, I tell you. Hell let's a few succubi loose on earth and everyone gets the wrong idea."

[personal profile] scaredofdogs 2020-06-01 05:20 am (UTC)(link)
Wei Wuxian laughs. Although his aren't really making offerings to him since they all assume he's still dead, the picture Crowley paints of them is pretty accurate.

"I just wish that if they are going to be my followers that when they draw pictures of me, they would at least capture some of my charm and not make me look like some ugly monster." He has some major qualms with their drawing skills. At least put some effort into it! He used to be ranked 4th in handsomeness among cultivators after all!
