The New Year arrives and even if there is no way for them to really tell time, just keeping track of days and a few conversations with staff helps them pinpoint when it happens. Not that anyone can tell what the year is, but at least people can welcome the start of a new year in this place.
Care to celebrate the new year? Find a supply of noisemakers or hats in one of the shops and create your own new year traditions. Might as well celebrate the fact that the hotel hasn't tried to mess with anyone lately!
And with the new year also brings January birthdays! Lan Wangji (both of them) are born during this month and so a dining hall has been set up with streamers and decorations. As well as cakes and desserts for everyone to enjoy. A special (slightly boring) meal of fruits and vegetables has been laid out as the day's specialty.
Have another January birthday you want to celebrate? Have another reason to be out and exploring? Feel free to top level with your own ideas and let's have the characters enjoy their time together.
Birthday
At the table, he thanked everyone for coming, and he insisted that everyone should enjoy themselves and help themselves to the cake. While the meal is vegetarian, there is a side of meat for the meat-eaters to eat with their meal.
He was nervous since it's his birthday, but the small party seem to proceed peacefully. "Thank you everyone for coming. Please, help yourself to the cake." He said, as he blows out the candles and help cut up the cake in neat slices, and hands them out by the plates.

Hua Cheng | ota
It has been quiet since the New Year. The snow is gone, but the fireplace seems to remain in place to keep the hotel lobby warm with the staff serving warm beverages and snacks. Hua Cheng passes the time to read whatever books from other worlds is available and keeping dianxia company.
He is generous though. In the lobby, he put up his works of paintings for all to see. His paintings show pictures from home. From the mountains to the forest, pictures of wildlife depicting of fierce tigers hunting in the bamboo forest, pandas and their cubs, rabbits, and hares frolicking through the wild woods, and red foxes chasing them and wolves howling to the moon. But there is some still life too, pictures of gardens and flowers, a promise of upcoming spring, a village of people releasing lanterns on a festive day toward the moon on a night sky. Eventually, he draws pictures that have stories of princes and princesses, a court of imperial nobles, pictures from the novels he reads, and from his imagination.
On each painting, he puts up a note that the paintings are free to take. Consider it a gift. He is recognizable that he is often dressed in a dashing red robe and tied up his hair with a red ribbon, and he has himself surrounded by art supplies. He paints his imagination on the canvas, and will draw anything by request if the subject is interesting, and often for free for he has a lot of time.
If you pass by while he is painting, he noticed you while he's painting with a paint-brush, mixing with colors and from bowls of color muddy water. "Hello. If you like that painting, you can have it. And I'll tell you the story of the painting."
