Night hunts are practically routine where Lan Xichen's from, at least for cultivators, and exploring an unfamiliar forest with relatively unknown dangers doesn't seem any different just because it's in another world. There certainly seems to be something of a sense of ease as they travel, and then as they set up camp.

During the day, there's a flurry of activity as the camp's occupants drift in and out, setting up or taking down tents, making weapons or food, going off to collect firewood or go hunting or fishing, patrol the area or anything else that needs doing.

In the evening there's a roaring fire to ward off the chill, the scent of cooking food and the sound of conversation.

Someone - quite likely Lan Xichen himself - will invite anyone who happens nearby to come sit down, warm themselves by the fire and have something to eat.

At night, there's likely always someone up on watch who might need company, or who might come to investigate someone nearby.

[ Lan Wangji reaches out for the wings and feels them silk-smooth in his hands, trimmed clean by a certain angel. ]

Hm.

[ He turns in Wei Ying's arms, and then breaks away from his embrace, only of course, to get a good look at his wings. ]

You should wear this more often.

[scaredofdogs]

[He laughs as he brings the wings back close to him and puts his hands on his hips.]

Wear what? Wings? Or no shirt?

[billowing]

The wings. They look good on you.

[ So does the no shirt, but listen, they're apparently supposed to be married soon, to other people, but also to each other, this is complicated, he's not trying to flirt back intentionally is what I'm getting at. ]

I think you say that about anything I change into.

[He's pretty sure he heard a similar comment about the bunny ears. But he doesn't mind the compliments.]

[billowing]

You always pick features that look good.

[ He tugs on his wings gently, and a tiny down feather comes out, which Lan Wangji tucks away behind his ear. ]

Then I'll have to keep picking good ones so that I can keep getting compliments.

[He thinks Lan Wangji would look good with pretty white wings as well and wishes they could fly together some day. He reaches out and touches the feathers, still impressed by their size and how they feel.]

These are a little more work then the bunny ears were.

[billowing]

They are a lot bigger.

[ And he touches them with trepidation, because he isn't trying to get smacked in the face with one. ]

Should I keep them while we visit the ruins?

[They might just get in the way depending on how bad the ruins are, but he does still have to get used to them a little bit more.]

[billowing]

You can always put them away if you don't need them.

[ And he might need to fly away. ]

[scaredofdogs]

[He reaches out to take his hand but then hesitates and drops it back down, looking over towards the camp.]

Let's get going then! Maybe we will find something interesting.

[billowing]

Mm.

[ He starts to walk with him, towards the castles, as they always had, just adventurously wandering. Nothing to see here... ]

[He picks up the rest of his clothing and ties it around his waist in case he decides to put it back on at some point in their travels.]

I've been wondering..do you think the queen let us out to see this place because she wants us to see what she is capable of?

[billowing]

The possibility crossed my mind.

[ He doesn't like the idea, but. They're outside. They can't forget they're in a prison, but they can keep that in their minds. ]

[scaredofdogs]

It's also possible she let us out here because she wants to see what we can do...

[A test of their abilities, a test of the teas she has given them..it's hard to say exactly but there has to be a bigger reason then her just being kind.]

It's not like we are free to do whatever we want..not completely. She sent guards.

[billowing]

How will she see what we can do without our powers?

[ Unless she wants to test Lan Wangji's raw skills.

In which case. He's not going full Nie Huaisang, but he's certainly holding some things back. ]

If she has set us loose without our powers, or with ones that we have been given..it might be a test. She has the power to give and take them away so she also needs to know who might be a threat. What better way to see what the threat is then put them in a situation they aren't familiar with.

[billowing]

Do you think the other buildings are a trap?

[scaredofdogs]

I think everything about this place is dangerous. And with what we know..we can't really trust anything. This whole trip is probably one big trap.

[There is just something about all of this that feels off even if he has been enjoying himself.]

[billowing]

Then what do you anticipate the result will be?

[ And why keep them alive this long for this? ]

[scaredofdogs]

I haven't quite figured that out yet. But eventually something is going to open her plans up for all to see.

[As long as he keeps digging..keep trying to piece things together.]

[billowing]

Then we should be quick at the other buildings.

[scaredofdogs]

[He nods and looks up at the ruins ahead of them.]

Have you been inside any of them yet?

[billowing]

I didn't know they were here until you saw them.

[ These are odd ruins. He starts moving towards them, careful to check for traps. ]

[scaredofdogs]

[He takes in everything, reaching out to touch one of the remnants of a wall.]

Do you think these were all one building..or a city?

[billowing]

Perhaps it was like Nightless City.

[ So big that it was just... basically a city. ]
