Night hunts are practically routine where Lan Xichen's from, at least for cultivators, and exploring an unfamiliar forest with relatively unknown dangers doesn't seem any different just because it's in another world. There certainly seems to be something of a sense of ease as they travel, and then as they set up camp.

During the day, there's a flurry of activity as the camp's occupants drift in and out, setting up or taking down tents, making weapons or food, going off to collect firewood or go hunting or fishing, patrol the area or anything else that needs doing.

In the evening there's a roaring fire to ward off the chill, the scent of cooking food and the sound of conversation.

Someone - quite likely Lan Xichen himself - will invite anyone who happens nearby to come sit down, warm themselves by the fire and have something to eat.

At night, there's likely always someone up on watch who might need company, or who might come to investigate someone nearby.

Then we should be quick at the other buildings.

[scaredofdogs]

[He nods and looks up at the ruins ahead of them.]

Have you been inside any of them yet?

[billowing]

I didn't know they were here until you saw them.

[ These are odd ruins. He starts moving towards them, careful to check for traps. ]

[scaredofdogs]

[He takes in everything, reaching out to touch one of the remnants of a wall.]

Do you think these were all one building..or a city?

[billowing]

Perhaps it was like Nightless City.

[ So big that it was just... basically a city. ]

[scaredofdogs]

Maybe..It all seems a lot older then the hotel.

[He keeps those wings very close to his back as they walk along, not wanting to hit anything.]

[billowing]

Yes, I see none of the pristine materials of the hotel here.

The decorations, as well, are much more ornate.

[ He keeps walking, and sees a skeleton. ]

This has been here along time.

[scaredofdogs]

[He walks up next to him and kneels down by the skeleton.]

There are probably a lot of spirits here..they don't look like they died particularly peacefully.

[billowing]

You will have to ask Aziraphale to play and see if that is the case.

I have my spirit attraction too..but I wonder what kind of spirits it would bring.

[He intends to do that one his own..far from the camp. If they are vengeful then he doesn't want anyone else getting hurt. And given the remaining clothing and weapons scattered around..these are likely soldiers.]

[billowing]

It's only us here.

[ And Hanguang-jun might be at a disadvantage but he's still Hanguang-jun. ]

[He nods and looks around. There really isn't anything around to use as a flag so looks like his body is it. Since they are soldiers..maybe he can get them to consider him their leader. He pulls out the switch blade from his pocket.]

I'll draw it out on myself that way if they are violent..I can draw them as far away as possible.

[billowing]

We will do it together.

[ He'd always volunteered to be Wei Ying's right-hand man whenever he did this, he doesn't see a reason to stop. ]

[scaredofdogs]

[He gives a nod then sucks in a deep breath before slicing his hand with the switch blade. He lets the breath out slowly as he watches the blood start to pool, wiping the blade off and putting it away before starting to draw the characters on his chest.]

I really hope they are in a good mood..

[He finishes the last stroke and activates it, eyes narrowing as he looks around and waits for them to get there.]

[ Lan Wangji takes a fighting stance, picking up a stick from the ground to guard them if need be.

It's maybe not going to work, but it's better than nothing.

And then. They wait. ]

[scaredofdogs]

[His expression becomes rather confused as it starts to get rather loud. But it isn't the sounds of spirits fighting or getting ready to attack. It more sounds like...laughing?]

Uh..Does something seem odd to you?

[billowing]

...Yes.

[ He waits, and wonders what's happening. It's not even... maniacal laughter. It doesn't sound like Xue Yang, and sure doesn't sound like that time in Wei Ying's life they don't talk about. ]

...Have your abilities been affected?

[scaredofdogs]

It doesn't feel any different but maybe the queen gave me the wrong one?

[He moves closer to Lan Wangji just in case but when the spirits finally show themselves they are not exactly what he expected. They are clearly wearing white like the remnants of the clothing left on the skeletons but they are all..much more energetic then any spirits he has ever summoned before.]

Have you ever seen such happy spirits before?

[billowing]

[ The answer is no, but these are the only words that Lan Wangji can summon right now. Looks like both these things are currently broken.

He lowers his stick, uselessly, to his side. ]

[Well they are coming right for them and now Wei Wuxian commands a very..joyful..batch of soldiers. He's a little weirded out at the moment but he's slowly starting to feel a bit relieved that they aren't violent at least.]

Are you guys the soldiers of this place?

[They all start talking at once which is rather overwhelming but eventually they start to talk about the king and the battles and they all seem rather eager to tell stories. He can feel himself smiling as he looks at them and then turns to look up at Lan Wangji.]

Can we keep them?

[billowing]

[ He looks at Wei Ying and really wants to ask aloud, are you serious. ]

What will we do with them?

[scaredofdogs]

Keep them around for protection! [For story time..]

I summoned them so maybe we can get them to warn us if anything dangerous decides to show up at the camp.

[billowing]

Do you speak their language?

[ Wei Ying.

Are we really doing this. ]

[scaredofdogs]

[He looks at the soldiers then back at Lan Wangji.] I kind of understand what they are saying. They want to talk about the 'good ol times'.
