A Family Dinner

It has been quiet around the hotel other then the fact that there is snow everywhere and the staff seems to be in a festive mood. After some discussions about holidays they discover that this is a time of the year when people gather with families and celebrate. So it was only natural that this large, unique, extended family should all come together and enjoy a meal together and reflect over their time in the hotel.

So the dining area has been decorated with red and gold and green, christmas trees are brightly lit around the room. Music plays softly over the speakers and a large buffet of food is out for all to enjoy. A fire crackles in the fireplace warming the room so that they snow has been melted away and won't make people want to rush back to the warmth of their rooms.mo

Come and enjoy the festivities, share gifts with one another, tell stories and simply enjoy the company and expectations for the coming year.

He laughs but gives a nod of approval. "That is the best way to celebrate it. Maybe we can come up with some wishes we would like to fulfill in the next year."

[billowing]

He doesn't know what he wants to wish for. He supposes he could be like Wei Ying, and wish to live a life that's full of honor and doing the right thing. But he already has.

"What does Wei Ying wish for?"

[scaredofdogs]

"I have everything I could ever wish for." He smiles up at him but then waves his hand towards the hotel.

"But perhaps beyond that I want to learn the secrets of this place."

[billowing]

"Then that is what we will wish for," he responds easily, though he does think that Wei Ying is so smooth. Very sweet.

[scaredofdogs]

He nods, thinking that it is a solid wish. Because by learning the secrets of this place then he will also learn what it takes to be able to visit the other worlds. And he'll be able to give his Lan Wangji what he wishes...to return home.

"It's a good wish. I'm glad that Lan Zhan will help me fulfill it."

[billowing]

"This Lan Wangji will always endeavor to fulfill Wei Ying's dreams," he answers, because he respects him and loves him and always wants the best for him.

[scaredofdogs]

"I'd help you fulfill any of your dreams as well, Lan Zhan. And since we are sharing this one, I know we will be able to do it."

His confidence may have wavered over the year with everything that has happened, but it is slowly starting to return. And he wants to be confident that they can fulfill this.

[billowing]

He walks with Wei Ying until they get to the part that they haven't written down yet, and, as he hands the stuff over, he taps Wei Ying on the nose.

He wrinkles his nose as it gets tapped, amused as he takes the supplies to get ready to do this new area. "Even if no one else uses these maps, I still enjoy doing this with you."

[billowing]

"I will use the maps," he answers, keeping a lookout as he hands Wei Ying the materials so that he can start working.

He starts sketching quickly, marking how long the halls are in reference to how big the rooms are. Documenting what is located and how long they have been aware of its existence. He makes sure to put as much information as he can into the map, using his terrible handwriting but knowing that once he gets the final version of it drawn, Lan Wangji will label it for him.

[billowing]

Ah, his handwriting really is terrible, but Lan Wangji can read it, so it's fine. He'll just follow along quietly, watching him work.

Once they reach the end of the hall he reaches up and scratches the side of his nose, studying his work.

"I think I got it all...Do you see anything I might have missed?"

[billowing]

He looks over Wei Ying's shoulder.

"No," he responds. "Let's move to the next section."

[scaredofdogs]

He nods and folds that map up, tucking it carefully inside his robes so that he can make sure he doesn't drop it. He then takes a clean piece of paper and labels it.

"It's kind of interesting...This hotel is so big. We saw it when we were outside. We've only been allowed into such a small piece of it. Even when we sneaked into those other areas...I feel like we have still only scratched the surface."

[billowing]

They don't even know where the forest they were taken to is. There's so much else besides... and a resistance, out there, somewhere.

"We will find a way."

[scaredofdogs]

He nods and heads in the direction of the stairs, knowing there is a few new places on the next level of the hotel.

"I can't even add those isolation rooms onto the map because I'm not entirely sure where they even are in relation to everything else..."

Or that room where he met the twins...

[billowing]

"I think they are hiding them from us." He heaves a sigh. There weren't windows. "We might have been on different floors."

[scaredofdogs]

"makes sense...they wouldn't want us to know where they are so that people can't save each other when they are locked up."

He frowns and makes a couple notes on the side of the map. He will have to remember to document the unknown rooms on a map that he doesn't share with the rest of the hotel.

[billowing]

"We are unable to take the stairs, so we have no way of knowing," he says. He frowns, thinking if there was a way to do more exploration.

[scaredofdogs]

"That day when we all organized and went to search the other areas we had the help of that resistance..." The day that he died...but he doesn't say that. It isn't the resistance's fault that happened. It was his own misfortune that he ended up in that place.

"They must have a map of this entire hotel otherwise they wouldn't know where to send us."

[billowing]

He nods. But it doesn't mean that they'd be able to access it at all. "I would not be surprised if they had one on their devices."

Presumably, they have devices.

[scaredofdogs]

"Our map might not be as detailed as theirs...but perhaps it is still a step in the right direction. To get closer to the secrets."

Wei Wuxian needs to believe they have made some progress. Otherwise the hard times are for nothing...

[billowing]

He does think it's worth something, but mostly he's just glad to have something to do, and that they can do it together.

"Let's keep moving, then."

He nods and heads towards the next area. "What other new rooms to you remember? It's hard to remember everything this place has had when some of the rooms change temporarily..."
