Night hunts are practically routine where Lan Xichen's from, at least for cultivators, and exploring an unfamiliar forest with relatively unknown dangers doesn't seem any different just because it's in another world. There certainly seems to be something of a sense of ease as they travel, and then as they set up camp.

During the day, there's a flurry of activity as the camp's occupants drift in and out, setting up or taking down tents, making weapons or food, going off to collect firewood or go hunting or fishing, patrol the area or anything else that needs doing.

In the evening there's a roaring fire to ward off the chill, the scent of cooking food and the sound of conversation.

Someone - quite likely Lan Xichen himself - will invite anyone who happens nearby to come sit down, warm themselves by the fire and have something to eat.

At night, there's likely always someone up on watch who might need company, or who might come to investigate someone nearby.

[He tries to at least make sure he isn't flying fast, but he hasn't really gotten the knack of hovering either so he simply slows down until he practically falls out of the sky into those waiting hands. At least he only falls a couple inches.]

I need to work on landing still.

[billowing]

Mm. But you flew very well.

You should try to fly backwards. That way, your speed will drop, and you will be able to control direction better.

[ Just his two cents from watching birds. ]

Fly backwards...[Another thing he will have to practice. he sits in Lan Wangji's hands as he considers that and how it might work.]

You know a lot about flying.

[ He watched a lot of birds out his window, wondering as he did, if Wei Ying had found another life, and if it was better. ]

Hm. Maybe.

[scaredofdogs]

[He rubs his beak against Lan Wangji's finger, as if nuzzling it. There aren't many gestures he can make in his body.]

Should I try again?

[billowing]

If you would like.

[ He returns the gesture, thumbing gently at his cheek. ]

[Or he could sit like this all day and get affection..but he'd rather do that in human form. So he gets back to his feet and spreads his wings again.]

This time I'll try and go a little higher.

[billowing]

Mm. I will be watching.

[ Carefully, so as to not let him drop, and he can work safely on his landing. ]

[He lifts up and into the air again, flying a little higher this time as he goes over the camp and watches everyone else being busy below. He wonders how many people he could surprise if a bird just started talking to them...He'll save that play for later.

He goes above the tree tops and flies back over to wear Lan wangji is waiting. He brings himself in a little lower but stays in the air.]

The hotel looks a lot bigger then I thought it was from here.

[billowing]

How big?

--How tall is it?

[ Because they still haven't figured out how many floors it is, which might be point number one. ]

It's hard to tell. It's oddly shaped and I can't really see all of it.

[He glides down and hovers near Lan Wangji's head.]

It is just as wide as it is tall. So there must be a lot we aren't allowed to see.

[billowing]

That's...

[ That's huge. Way bigger than carp tower. What? ]

How can such a large building be free-standing?

[scaredofdogs]

I'm not sure. It looks like there used to be a lot of large buildings in this area but most have collapsed or been destroyed.

[billowing]

Should we go look at them?

[ While they can. It might give them a clue. ]

[scaredofdogs]

[He gets ready to attempt another landing.]

Okay! Doing that will be easier with my regular body.

[billowing]

[ Lan Wangji watches and continues moving his hands as a runway for Wei Ying to practice a landing for real, as opposed to just catching him. ]

[scaredofdogs]

[He tries to hover above those hands, stretching out his feet until they make contact and then he stops flapping and lands. It might not be the most graceful or birdlike landing but it got the job done.]

Do you want to see what it looks like when I have wings on my normal body?

[billowing]

[ Ah, that's right, he can do that. And he probably did to learn from Aziraphale. ]

Show me.

[scaredofdogs]

[The little bird head tilts down to look at his clothing in a pile on the ground then up at Lan Wangji and then over at the camp in the distance. he really hopes no one else is close by.]

Okay! [He flies down to the ground so that he can be standing when he becomes human.]

[billowing]

[ Lan Wangji stands in front of him, with his back turned so he's watching out for anyone who might be peering this way. ]

[Now that he has a Lan Wangji sized guard he changes into his normal body, with added black wings. He reaches down and collects his pants, pulling them on as quick as he can to avoid any one getting a particularly interesting show. And once he is halfway dressed..since wings and top layers do not mix well..he wraps his arms around Lan Wangji from behind, even bringing those wings around him as well, almost able to encase them completely within the wingspan.]

I'm decent now.

[billowing]

[ Lan Wangji reaches out for the wings and feels them silk-smooth in his hands, trimmed clean by a certain angel. ]

Hm.

[ He turns in Wei Ying's arms, and then breaks away from his embrace, only of course, to get a good look at his wings. ]

You should wear this more often.

[scaredofdogs]

[He laughs as he brings the wings back close to him and puts his hands on his hips.]

Wear what? Wings? Or no shirt?

[billowing]

The wings. They look good on you.

[ So does the no shirt, but listen, they're apparently supposed to be married soon, to other people, but also to each other, this is complicated, he's not trying to flirt back intentionally is what I'm getting at. ]

I think you say that about anything I change into.

[He's pretty sure he heard a similar comment about the bunny ears. But he doesn't mind the compliments.]
