A Family Dinner

It has been quiet around the hotel other then the fact that there is snow everywhere and the staff seems to be in a festive mood. After some discussions about holidays they discover that this is a time of the year when people gather with families and celebrate. So it was only natural that this large, unique, extended family should all come together and enjoy a meal together and reflect over their time in the hotel.

So the dining area has been decorated with red and gold and green, christmas trees are brightly lit around the room. Music plays softly over the speakers and a large buffet of food is out for all to enjoy. A fire crackles in the fireplace warming the room so that they snow has been melted away and won't make people want to rush back to the warmth of their rooms.mo

Come and enjoy the festivities, share gifts with one another, tell stories and simply enjoy the company and expectations for the coming year.

He did say that they could spend time together every day.

And he likes to spend time with him.

"Why would I not?"

He shrugs and looks down at his map again, letting that be a small distraction.

"You have your own Wei Wuxian to keep busy with. And I'm sure you spend time with your brother every day too. I don't want to distract from any of that."

"There are twenty-four hours in a day," he responds.

"I could spare one or two for this Wei Ying."

He laughs and looks up at him, "Then I will make sure to cherish my one to two hours a day. We will find much to keep us busy with." Between eating together or investigating changes to the hotel, he is sure they will find something to do.

Lan Wangji isn't one to waste any time, and so, he will want to make the most of his time with Wei Ying too.

He threads their fingers together. "Do you need this hand?"

He swings their hands, "Not at the moment I don't. I can easily remember where we go and draw it all out later." He's just as content to simply walk around the hotel and not worry about the map.

Then Lan Wangji won't let go of him.

He will - only a little, to place an arm around his shoulders instead.

He turns his face to look up at him, "You don't really care about making a new map do you?" His smile is more amused and playful now.

"This part is already on the map," he retorts. So they really don't have to pay attention to it.

"That is true. Then I will enjoy just this until we reach a new part." Usually he is the one that has to initiate a lot of the contact so it makes him happy whenever Lan Wangji makes the choice to be the one to hold him.

It's a special night, so Lan Wangji is feeling extra affectionate. And he doesn't want Wei Ying to feel ignored.

Besides, it's rare they get to do this anymore. And after all the fighting recently... it's nice for everyone to get along again.

The hotel has been quiet lately and they all have probably noticed that. But he doesn't mind as long as they all manage to stay together. He hardly feels like he has been ignored but perhaps they haven't had the chances to come together as often as he would like because of how quiet it has been.

So he will enjoy this, walking slower as if to avoid getting to that area where inevitably they will have to start drawing the new maps.

"Do you have any plans for the new year, Lan Zhan?"

He shakes his head. "No. It doesn't feel like a new year," he answers. It doesn't feel like it's going to be spring soon, which is how he always marks the new year, like the last days of cold.

He doesn't mind the cold, but those years without Wei Ying always felt more of a bite, a bitterness.

And so, he'd welcomed the spring, and had focused on things like watching Sizhui grow up instead.

It's a lot harder when they can't even go outside and experience the different seasons. Or when the weather gets brought inside like the snow was...

"But it is a new year coming and who knows what it will bring with it. We have already celebrated so many things together. We should celebrate that too."

Hmmm...

"Then I will spend it with Wei Ying," he answers. "Both of them. You are family."

That's all the plans he has.

He laughs but gives a nod of approval. "That is the best way to celebrate it. Maybe we can come up with some wishes we would like to fulfill in the next year."

He doesn't know what he wants to wish for. He supposes he could be like Wei Ying, and wish to live a life that's full of honor and doing the right thing. But he already has.

"What does Wei Ying wish for?"

"I have everything I could ever wish for." He smiles up at him but then waves his hand towards the hotel.

"But perhaps beyond that I want to learn the secrets of this place."

"Then that is what we will wish for," he responds easily, though he does think that Wei Ying is so smooth. Very sweet.

He nods, thinking that it is a solid wish. Because by learning the secrets of this place then he will also learn what it takes to be able to visit the other worlds. And he'll be able to give his Lan Wangji what he wishes...to return home.

"It's a good wish. I'm glad that Lan Zhan will help me fulfill it."

"This Lan Wangji will always endeavor to fulfill Wei Ying's dreams," he answers, because he respects him and loves him and always wants the best for him.

"I'd help you fulfill any of your dreams as well, Lan Zhan. And since we are sharing this one, I know we will be able to do it."

His confidence may have wavered over the year with everything that has happened, but it is slowly starting to return. And he wants to be confident that they can fulfill this.

He walks with Wei Ying until they get to the part that they haven't written down yet, and, as he hands the stuff over, he taps Wei Ying on the nose.

He wrinkles his nose as it gets tapped, amused as he takes the supplies to get ready to do this new area. "Even if no one else uses these maps, I still enjoy doing this with you."

"I will use the maps," he answers, keeping a lookout as he hands Wei Ying the materials so that he can start working.
