Night hunts are practically routine where Lan Xichen's from, at least for cultivators, and exploring an unfamiliar forest with relatively unknown dangers doesn't seem any different just because it's in another world. There certainly seems to be something of a sense of ease as they travel, and then as they set up camp.

During the day, there's a flurry of activity as the camp's occupants drift in and out, setting up or taking down tents, making weapons or food, going off to collect firewood or go hunting or fishing, patrol the area or anything else that needs doing.

In the evening there's a roaring fire to ward off the chill, the scent of cooking food and the sound of conversation.

Someone - quite likely Lan Xichen himself - will invite anyone who happens nearby to come sit down, warm themselves by the fire and have something to eat.

At night, there's likely always someone up on watch who might need company, or who might come to investigate someone nearby.

[ Oh, he's so cute... He gently pets Wei Ying's feathers, because Lan Wangji knows he doesn't mind being touched and he can't help it. ]

Let me see how well you can fly.

[scaredofdogs]

[He kind of fluffs up, always enjoying the pets he gets in his animal forms. He spreads his wings out.]

This will be my first time trying to fly in this form. I promise not to go too high.

[billowing]

I'll be here.

[ He makes sure to keep his eyes on Wei Ying the entire time. ]

[It takes a few flaps to figure out the differences between this and when he had the wings on his back. This does seem vaguely easier though as he lifts off of Lan Wangji's hand and flies upwards.]

Ah! I did it!

[billowing]

You did.

[ He gives Wei Ying a little smile watching him fly. He's so graceful as a bird, and it makes Lan Wangji feel wondrous in a way that he hasn't for awhile. ]

[He remembers what Aziraphale told him about gliding and he gives it a try as he circles around over Lan Wangji's head. It's actually really enjoyable being up in the air.]

How do I look?

[billowing]

Like you're having fun.

[ But it makes Lan Wangji smile, because he likes this carefree Wei Ying. He had always hoped that he'd stay like this. ]

[He makes sure to stay close, just like he promised. Flying over the camp very quickly before circling back over to where Lan Wangji is. He hasn't done much practicing of landing but certainly it won't be too bad. He is just going to have to work up to having the confidence to do it.]

It is fun! I wish you could fly with me. I haven't been in the air like this since..

[Since losing his core. He's going to leave that unsaid.]

[ He's not going to ask, because of all the things that he could remember being in the air, Lan Wangji assumes, involve falling great heights.

He holds up his hands, in case Wei Ying would like to crash into them. ]

[He tries to at least make sure he isn't flying fast, but he hasn't really gotten the knack of hovering either so he simply slows down until he practically falls out of the sky into those waiting hands. At least he only falls a couple inches.]

I need to work on landing still.

[billowing]

Mm. But you flew very well.

You should try to fly backwards. That way, your speed will drop, and you will be able to control direction better.

[ Just his two cents from watching birds. ]

Fly backwards...[Another thing he will have to practice. he sits in Lan Wangji's hands as he considers that and how it might work.]

You know a lot about flying.

[ He watched a lot of birds out his window, wondering as he did, if Wei Ying had found another life, and if it was better. ]

Hm. Maybe.

[scaredofdogs]

[He rubs his beak against Lan Wangji's finger, as if nuzzling it. There aren't many gestures he can make in his body.]

Should I try again?

[billowing]

If you would like.

[ He returns the gesture, thumbing gently at his cheek. ]

[Or he could sit like this all day and get affection..but he'd rather do that in human form. So he gets back to his feet and spreads his wings again.]

This time I'll try and go a little higher.

[billowing]

Mm. I will be watching.

[ Carefully, so as to not let him drop, and he can work safely on his landing. ]

[He lifts up and into the air again, flying a little higher this time as he goes over the camp and watches everyone else being busy below. He wonders how many people he could surprise if a bird just started talking to them...He'll save that play for later.

He goes above the tree tops and flies back over to wear Lan wangji is waiting. He brings himself in a little lower but stays in the air.]

The hotel looks a lot bigger then I thought it was from here.

How big?

--How tall is it?

[ Because they still haven't figured out how many floors it is, which might be point number one. ]

It's hard to tell. It's oddly shaped and I can't really see all of it.

[He glides down and hovers near Lan Wangji's head.]

It is just as wide as it is tall. So there must be a lot we aren't allowed to see.

[billowing]

That's...

[ That's huge. Way bigger than carp tower. What? ]

How can such a large building be free-standing?

[scaredofdogs]

I'm not sure. It looks like there used to be a lot of large buildings in this area but most have collapsed or been destroyed.

[billowing]

Should we go look at them?

[ While they can. It might give them a clue. ]

[He gets ready to attempt another landing.]

Okay! Doing that will be easier with my regular body.

[billowing]

[ Lan Wangji watches and continues moving his hands as a runway for Wei Ying to practice a landing for real, as opposed to just catching him. ]
