to lose all my senses —
THAT IS JUST SO TYPICALLY ME
It's not clear how many days it's been since you arrived in Wonderland. With it stuck in perpetual twilight, it could have been days, perhaps longer — everything starts to blur together, in this artificially joyful place. Maybe you've started to feel like you you're getting used to it, maybe not...But eventually, something happens to break the monotony. Your ears begin to ring, and ring, and ring and then — stop. The lights become blinding, forcing you to squeeze your eyes shut and try to rub the afterimage of all that light from them — but when you open your eyes, you still can't see.
The staff don't understand when you ask them what's happened to you. "You've always been like this", they insist. They sign at you, or try to hand you papers written in braille — if you insist you've never signed in your life, or that you can't read braille, they laugh at your funny joke. You begin to wonder — have you always been this way? You were so sure... But everyone around you is equally sure of their truth, and their voices are so much louder.
As if that weren't enough, nothing in the hotel can be found in the same place twice. All the shops keep switching places, once you enter one area it's as though everything shifts in the minutes before you leave again. Getting back to your room is a struggle — where are the elevators? Finding food is nearly impossible — the Pig & Pepper was there, but now it's not. The staff are equally useless here — they have no idea what you mean about moving shops. Where would you want to move to when all your needs are accounted for right here?
What is going on?
SEE NO EVIL, HEAR NO EVIL — 5/11
The day starts like any other has in the Hotel — unsure if a new day has started at all. Perpetual twilight and lack of clocks makes it difficult to tell time here in the Hotel, but on this particular day, something breaks up the monotony. It begins slowly — or else it happens all at once. Over the course of the day, all Oysters find themselves losing a sense. Staff don't understand their complaints — you've always been like this, they say, gentle, as though to a person in the middle of a break with reality.
Losing your temper won't help, either. Oysters who shout and yell will find staff remaining frustrating calm and compassionate, insisting that they cannot fix what has always been and murmuring about Mad March before taking their leave. Physical aggression may result in a spike of fear, but staff will quickly make their exit and may avoid that Oyster for a while.
If that wasn't enough, nothing in the Hotel is staying put.

IT'S LIKE A MAZE IN HERE — 5/11
The interior of the Hotel has ceased to remain stationary. Beginning at the same time as the loss of senses, the establishments of the Hotel begin to jump around, never staying in the same place twice. An Oyster may have entered the Pool of Tears from the lobby, but exit it into the middle of the casino. The Pig & Pepper Buffet is never in the same place twice, and always seems to move right when Oysters desperately need a meal.
Even as the old shops move, new establishments seem to be being added, but they aren't easy to find — Oysters will see a new sign across the building from where they are, only to see it's moved again by the time they get there. If you take your eyes off an establishment as you head toward it, it disappears and reappears elsewhere. Making it to the new establishments will take some time and dedication (or perhaps plain stubbornness), but there are rewards in it for any Oyster that can manage the feat!

Back To Rights — 5/15
A few days after the effects of the event begin, they just as suddenly end. Sight, hearing, speech — they all return in a rush, possibly overwhelmingly so, and when one tries to make their way to a shop, it stays exactly where it was when they first saw it, and they exit the exact same place they entered. Staff will react much the same way as they did when they were questioned after the loss of senses — you've always been like this.
You made it through, Oysters. You've completed your first event in the Hotel.

We hope you enjoy this first event, Oysters! If you have any questions, please leave them on the first comment to this page. Happy playing!

Wei Wuxian (novel) | OTA & Closed to River for Option 2
Being blind doesn't bother him. Being blind in a place he has very little knowledge of and apparently likes to keep changing..slightly more aggravating. It happened to him suddenly and he barely had time to realize it was going before it was gone and he found himself on the floor. He's not a clumsy person but when your sight suddenly disappears, sometimes those tables are not where you remember them being.
So now he is very cautiously making his way through the building, one hand running along the wall in an attempt to stay in a straight line. He's trying to make sure he doesn't run into any more things since that bruise on his knee from falling still throbs a little.
"Inconvenient but not that hard to deal with.." Now if only he can feel his way to the bar. Drinking is an activity he can figure out even without his sight.
2. It's like a maze in here - close to River
He suddenly realizes that getting around this place is probably better if you have a second pair of..well normally it would be eyes but even that doesn't seem completely plausible right about now. It took quite a bit of work to find the bar and even after carefully figuring out how many steps it took to get out of it..he still ended up in a different area completely then where he had intended. Something is definitely out of whack with this world right now.
As he turns to head back towards the bar, hoping to maybe start over and get it right this time, he accidentally runs into someone.
"Oh! Sorry about that. I'm having a few issues with seeing at the moment." Then he realized that this person might be one that can't hear and that could make this apology pointless.
I.
He has seen the other residents are struggling with the same issue, of their senses being blocked, but he found they're either blind, deaf, or mute and without his voice, communication is an obstacle.
After he discovered one of the room, a bar of all places, and he isn't there, he continues his search of him. He sees Wei Ying walking through the hall, touching the walls to figure out his way. But he walks by passing him. That's when he figured he can't see him. "..." Wei Ying can't see me. He thought. Wangji can't raise his voice because it's temporarily gone for the time being.
He can't figure out a way to get his attention, so he goes for the direct approach and he reached out to tap on his shoulder and grabs one of his wrists, knowing a sudden grab will raise alarm.
no subject
He obviously can't be certain with his eyes the way they are but there really isn't any reason to strike out even if it isn't the other man. As far as he knows no one in this hotel really wants to cause them harm. So he relaxes and turns a little, reaching out to see if he can feel the familiar robes of the other man.
no subject
He opens his mouth, but his blocked vocal cords can't form any words at all. "..." So when Wei Wuxian reaches out for him, he guides both of his wrists to feel the lapels on his robes. The jade amulet and it's silk tassels that hangs from his waist.
Slowly going up, he guides his wrist to place his hands on his face where the bangs of his black hair brushed against his skin.
no subject
"Why didn't you say anything?" It isn't really strange for the man to be quiet but he would have at least let him know he was there with some sort of speech. Suddenly a frightening thought strikes him and his fingers move to Lan Wangji's mouth, silently concerned that someone might have cut out his tongue. He has seen enough of that recently. Certainly Xue Yang hasn't also been brought to this place.
no subject
Other than feeling frustrated and distressed, he's only relieved to find his partner again. His cheeks darken when he feels for his lips, standing still, remaining silent. Part of him burns with eagerness from his touch, but he suppressed it, keeping his expression impassive.
Eventually, he holds one of his hands, finger interlocking. If Wei Wuxian holds his hands before, he can feel how calloused they are, his fingers long, there's a strength in his hands from exercising handstands, and from the years of handling the strings and the sword.
no subject
If that is the case hopefully the other man still has his sight. At least then Wei Wuxian will have a set of eyes that can guide him until this all wears out.
no subject
He could definitely see and lend him his sight to guide the way to where Wei Wuxian wished to go and let Wei Wuxian figure out a way to communicate with him.
no subject
He will just have to make sure he can ask yes or no questions as best he can to keep communication simple.
"Let's find somewhere to sit. The hotel keeps changing so it will be hard to get back if we travel too much."

No, she silently corrected, it was still moving. Nothing seemed to be staying in one place for long.
Fortunately, she hadn't had too many embarrassing incidents yet.
River instinctively reached out to steady the body that collided with her. "Well, it seems we have that in common," she quipped.
no subject
"By any chance have you noticed that that rooms don't seem to be where they are supposed to be as well?" He was sure he was headed somewhere other then where he was.
no subject
That was patently untrue. It was as if the entire hotel had gone on the fritz, and one would need to be more than blind not to notice. No matter what the staff were saying.
"I haven't been able to find anything all day, and I know my sense of direction isn't that bad, even blind."
no subject
Wei Wuxian smiled, clearly just happy to have some company regardless of where they ended up walking to.
no subject
But the sentiment was the same. And she supposed company wouldn't hurt.
"My name's River, by the way."
no subject
"Wei Wuxian. It's nice to meet you River. I'll try to make sure you don't run into any chairs. I already had a nasty encounter with a table earlier today." He would normally bow but it seemed rather pointless given it wouldn't be seen and could possibly result in him accidentally head butting her.
no subject
River nodded, before remembering their shared predicament and answering aloud, "Ah, I had a near miss with the swimming pool."
Which had been annoying, to say the least. She wasn't usually so clumsy, and it really shouldn't have been there at the time.
"I have to say, this is a first for me," she started conversationally, "but I suppose it could have been worse."
no subject
He doesn't know where they are going to end up, but it will certainly be an adventure. "I've never been blind but I have blindfolded myself before. I used to do it when I shot archery. I even wandered around and entire forest that way just because I could. And yet somehow..this is harder!" Probably because he can't just take a blindfold off if he gets stuck somewhere. And he knew how to navigate a forest that doesn't change every few minutes.

It seems like that isn't the case for everyone, though, and when Mikumo sees someone walking alongside the wall with a hand against it like it's a guide, she looks ahead and speaks a warning.
"Careful, someone's left a housekeeping trolley about a metre in front of you," she says, voice coming from somewhere behind him but fairly close by. She can't help but wonder if the staff placed that one intentionally, if there's people without their sight wandering around. "I won't be able to hear you if you ask for the exact position, though."
no subject
"I appreciate the heads up!" Hopefully this one is as adept as reading lips as the others he has encountered.
no subject
"Not saying anything would have been a bit cruel. Is it only hearing and sight they've taken from people, do you know?"
The bulk of the people she's run into so far have lost their hearing, so she's curious if there's any sort of identifiable pattern.

"Three things, then. I suppose losing one's sense of smell might not be as much of a problem, though you'd think sense of touch might be on the table if they were trying to mess with our heads."
Which all the gaslighting on top of the hotel shuffling itself around has had her increasingly thinking is the intent.
no subject
"I'm curious to see if there is a cure all like there was for some of the other things the hotel tried to give us."
no subject
"I know the teas were more of a waiting for it to wear off situation, so it's hard to tell. Granted, both those and the size-changing food seemed more...random, for want of a better word."
no subject
At least he could still function like normal..just in a miniaturized form.
