A Family Dinner

It has been quiet around the hotel other then the fact that there is snow everywhere and the staff seems to be in a festive mood. After some discussions about holidays they discover that this is a time of the year when people gather with families and celebrate. So it was only natural that this large, unique, extended family should all come together and enjoy a meal together and reflect over their time in the hotel.

So the dining area has been decorated with red and gold and green, christmas trees are brightly lit around the room. Music plays softly over the speakers and a large buffet of food is out for all to enjoy. A fire crackles in the fireplace warming the room so that they snow has been melted away and won't make people want to rush back to the warmth of their rooms.mo

Come and enjoy the festivities, share gifts with one another, tell stories and simply enjoy the company and expectations for the coming year.

He shakes his head, "But if you aren't happy then how will I ever be completely happy?" Because if Lan Wangji is sad that he will be as well. He doesn't ever want to see either Lan Wangji upset.

"It is not something you or I can fix," he answers. "Not right now. And so, it's not worth thinking about."

He leans over and lays his head against Lan Wangji's shoulder. He knows he can't help the man return home if that is what is making him upset.

"I'd do anything to make Lan Zhan feel better if I could."

He would, at personal sacrifice, which makes Lan Wangji's heart hurt. "Just stay here with me," he responds. "For now."

There are just times when Lan Wangji can't be fully satisfied. Xiongzhang had learned that when Wei Ying had been dead. But now that he has two of them, he's still unsatisfied.

"For as long as you want." He still has plenty of food to eat and he can always get more to keep himself busy with. He doesn't get to spend a lot of time with this Lan Wangji so he is happy to be by his side now until he no longer wishes him to be.

He slides another plate closer as he lifts his head back up, this one with just a simple salad on it.

Just a simple salad? Then Lan Wangji will help him pick at it. It's nice when they get to share something.

"Wei Ying, we are not supposed to talk while we are still eating," he comments.

"When have I ever been able to follow that rule, Lan Zhan?" When has he been able to follow any of their rules? But that one is particularly difficult for him. Good food is supposed to be coupled with good conversation...and good wine.

"We aren't talking when we are chewing so technically we are still following the rule."

"You are not supposed to talk during the meal," he responds, because Wei Ying knows what the rules mean. And also how big the bowls are for the three-bowls rule.

The silly goose.

He affectionately tugs at Wei Ying's hair.

"That's no fun, Lan Zhan. And we've already broken it plenty of times so why should we follow it now?"

Once it is broken it can't be put back together again. And no matter how many times Lan Wangji tells hm not to break it, Wei Wuxian isn't going to stop.

"Hm, it teaches discipline," he answers, plaintively.

Except that it has never taught Wei Ying any sort of discipline, has never taught him a shred of humility. No, plenty of other things had, but never the Gusu Lan rules.

Still, he returns to his food.

He laughs because discipline has never been something he has been good with. But he will behave and grant Lan Wangji a few moments of peace as he eats a little more of his food in silence.

Of course it can't possibly last long..

Once he finishes with his place he pushes it out of the way and leans on the table so he can watch the other man eat.

"Even though this isn't what I expected my life to be like, I am glad I was able to meet you during this year."

Lan Wangji is still eating his meal, so he says nothing back, but he does reach over and take Wei Ying's hand, giving it a reassuring squeeze that he feels the same.

He flips the hand over, palm up, and gently plays with it, drawing little circles, before pulling his hand away.

He watches those fingers as they trace over his hand, smiling softly from the sentiment and the feeling of it. He then captures that hand before it can run away so that he can continue to hold it. Lan Wangji only needs one hand to eat.

Ah, that is true. He only needs one hand to eat. He will eat with one hand, and continue holding Wei Ying's hand with the other.

He offers one of his little smiles, as he eats his food. Soon, he is finished, and he can place his chopsticks down and the other hand on Wei Ying's hand too.

His smile brightens and he places his second hand on Lan Wangji's as well. Maybe it will keep the man from escaping away.

"Now that you are done eating, what are you going to do?"

He thinks about it a second, and then squeezes.

"I am going to hold Wei Ying's hand," comes the answer.

He laughs and hops out of his seat, still holding onto those hands. "What if I decide to drag you all over the room because you are holding it?"

"I will follow you," he responds. "And wonder where we are walking."

"We would walk everywhere. All over the hotel like we used to when we were exploring it and drawing the maps."

The hotel has changed a few things around so he hasn't updated the map. Of course they had gotten a little distracted with a lot of other things since then.

"I have to keep adding to our new book so we need new adventures."

"Alright. We can make updates to the map." He is up for a little adventure; no one would miss them for a little bit, anyway.

"Right now? Really?" He grins and pulls Lan Wangji to his feet.

"I should draw one of the gardens too at some point. Even if we can't access it now, we might be able to some day again so it would be good to have one."

Plus it is good to have a a working diagram of the hole hotel in case they need to make plans for escape or battle or..anything that might come up.

He smiles back, gently, and walks with him. Wei Wuxian is just so excited, that it's hard to deny him his happiness.

Lan Wangji tries to quell his heart, but he's having a time of it.

"I still remember the garden. I can draw a map."

He is definitely excited because having a purpose, even just a small one, is at least something more then simply sitting around. And being able to do it with Lan Wangji always lifts his mood.

"We need to find some paper and things to draw it with. We probably will have to go to the front desk. If you want to do the gardens, then I will do the inside."

He remembers most of the changes at least. Others he can figure out with a little bit of exploring.

"Mn," he answers. "There's some in my rooms." He offers to take Wei Ying up there, so they can get some, and perhaps do some drawing up there. He'll be able to think better there.

He nods and leads the man towards the elevators. He hasn't really been in this Lan Wangji's room in a long time. "That will be a good place to do it."

He could take him to Lotus pier but it isn't particularly peaceful in there with the animals.
